You are the main character.
Every story needs a hero. This time it’s you.
Pick a genre or type any idea. Put in your name and pronouns, choose who you fall for or who you’re up against, and a novel is written around you, chapter by chapter.
Choose your path.
Every scene ends in a choice, and the story follows what you pick. Try one, or step through a few openings.
Branch off.
Don’t like where it’s going? Rewrite it. Any paragraph, any time.
Hold any paragraph, type what should happen instead, and the story splits into a new version from there. Your original stays, so you can go back to it. Hand-written story apps can’t do this.
Unlimited possibilities.
13 genres and more than a hundred ready-made premises. Or create your own: type any idea, mix two genres, and choose the writing style.
A real book, made for you.
It reads like a book, not a chat. Painted covers, chapters, book typography, reading themes and a library that keeps your place. Each story is planned ahead and keeps track of its characters and what has happened, across dozens of chapters.
The Signet Ring
Luca doesn’t look up when you come in. He turns the ring on his finger, once, twice, the way he does when he’s deciding something.
“You kept the letter,” he says. It isn’t a question.
Read it together.
Share your story with a friend. They can peek at what you picked, or make their own choices, and see where you agreed.

Questions.
Is it written by AI?
Yes. Every story is written by AI as you read, one scene at a time, from a plan made when the book starts. You choose the genre, the lead and the idea; the AI writes the prose.
Is it explicit?
No. Nightstand is for readers 18 and over. Stories can be romantic, tense and thrilling, but intimate scenes fade to black.
Do I need an account?
Not to start. You can open a ready-made premise and read its first scene without signing up. To make any choice you need a free account, which just saves your library to an email so it’s there on any device. Reading on past the first 2 chapters, or writing a book of your own, starts the 3-day free trial.
Which genres are there?
Romance, romantasy, fantasy, paranormal, thriller, political thriller, sci-fi, mystery, crime, horror, historical, action & adventure and light novel, with ready-made premises in each. You can also type any idea of your own or combine genres.
Does the story remember what happened?
Each book is planned ahead and keeps track of its characters, places and what has happened so far, across dozens of chapters. Like any writer, it can occasionally slip, and you can branch off to fix it.
How do the free trial and cancelling work?
The trial is free for 3 days with your card on file. We don’t charge it during the trial. Unless you cancel before it ends, it becomes a Plus plan at $14.99 a month and renews every month until you cancel. You can cancel online in one step, any time, under Account › Subscription. Cancel before your trial ends and you pay nothing.
What are gems?
Gems are used inside Nightstand for extras: a premium choice costs 20 gems, branching a story costs 50, and gems let you keep reading after your free allowance runs out. Plans include gems every month, and packs start at 60 gems for $4.99.
Is there an app?
Nightstand works in your phone’s browser today, with nothing to install. You can add it to your home screen. Apps for iOS and Android are coming later.
Your story starts tonight.
